Description for the presentation 2015-2016 in the National Museum of Modern Art

In 1923, László Moholy-Nagy became head of the metal workshop at the Bauhaus. There he encouraged the school to learn from industry in making use of machinery in the practice of art. Composition A.XX testifies to the artist’s central concern with light, space and movement. The play of transparency, opacity and reflection produced by the varying shades of white and the mathematically controlled disposition of lines and simple forms generate an illusion of depth, and identify this as one of the series of “light paintings”.
