Fernand Léger’s La Noce [The Wedding] is difficult to decipher at first glance. The eye is drawn to the rhythmically disposed white and coloured areas that structure the space. Between these forms appears a mass of smaller, interlocking elements in more sombre colours, in which one can make out the wedding procession winding about the bride and groom, whose faces occupy the middle of the painting, as well as fragments of bodies and of landscape.
