Description for the presentation 2015-2016 in the National Museum of Modern Art

The Polish artist Katarzyna Kobro’s Sculpture spatiale unites a number of utopian conceptions drawn from Constructivism, Suprematism and the work of the Abstraction-Création group. At one with the space it intervenes in, the work proposes a “total” and “organic” organisation of that space through the precisely calculated arrangement of open volumes in painted sheet steel. For Kobro, the definition of an “open” space, theoretically understood as uniting the rhythms of nature with architectonic design, was the subject and indeed object of the future universal art.
