Description for the presentation 2013-2014 in the National Museum of Modern Art

Although present at the birth of the Futurist movement, in 1910 Mario Sironi turned towards a realistic, static style. This painting belongs to the assertive years of the Novecento group, of which Sironi was one of the most melancholic and nihilistic representatives. Through the choice of colours and layout of volumes, this composition evinces an expressive intensity and the artist’s liking for formal stability.
