Description for the presentation 2015-2016 in the National Museum of Modern Art

Georges Braque discovered the “Fauve” room at the 1905 Salon d’Automne with a delighted astonishment that is reflected in the luminous colour of Estaque. He left for the South of France in October 1906, following in the footsteps of Cézanne, who had painted the same locations in the 1870s. Based on a securely structured arrangement of lines and planes, the composition here recalls the work of the older artist.
