Description for the presentation 2014 in the National Museum of Modern Art

Victor Man’s imaginative universe draws on historical facts and subjective experiences from different times and places. Suggesting embroidery in its filiform composition, this deliberately enigmatic stained glass window features graphic elements inspired by the fate of an obscure 17th-century artist named Guiseppe Sacchi and by stanza 13 of the second canto of Chants de Maldoror (1869) – the work of the poet Comte de Lautréamont (1846-1870) – which describes fantastical scenes taking place during a violent storm at sea.
