Description for the presentation 2013-2014 in the National Museum of Modern Art

In Paris during the Thirties, Torres-García developed a pictorial language that he called Universalismo Constructivo. Using a system of pictograms, he constructed compositions halfway between pure abstraction and archaic pre-Columbian values. His aim was to create a universal art that could be immediately perceived by the senses. In Composition Constructive with Compass, he uses a repertory of signs combining a geometrical composition, figurative elements and words.
