Dressed in a spectacular stage costume that highlighted her black stockings and her boots, this dancer adopted a seductive pose in Van Dongen’s studio.

Due to the immediate proximity of the Folies Bergères music hall, Van Dongen’s studio was equipped with electric spotlights, which was rare at the time. Reproducing the atmosphere of Paris night life, the brutality of this lighting underscored the dancer’s wan flesh and exacerbated her make-up.
