Description for the presentation 2010 in the National Museum of Modern Art

The figure of the mythical Minotaur, with the head of a bull and the body of a man, is a central motif in Picasso's work, as much for its evocation of the themes of the bull and bullfighting as for its symbolization of the ambiguity of the human, halfway between god and animal. Picasso here depicts him for the first time, sombrely drawn in charcoal on a ground of beige and blue pasted paper.
