Description for the presentation 2015-2016 in the National Museum of Modern Art

Milanese artist, architect, designer, and magazine editor, Ugo La Pietra explored in the wake of Lucio Fontana’s Spatialism a “synaesthetic” approach for which the work existed only in the spatial and cognitive field. He then developed “micro-environments” for viewer activation which in the early 1960s he called Unbalancing Systems. In his design for Maison pour un sculpteur [House for a Sculptor] (1960-62) the monolithic organic forms allude to the anti-functionalism of Hans Hollein.
