Description for the presentation 2013-2014 in the National Museum of Modern Art

Louise Janin came from a family who collected Far Eastern art. She studied at the California School of Fine Arts. Her work, marked by Orientalist and spiritualist influences, depicts an imaginary world peopled with Eastern gods, tigers and dragons. In 1923 she moved to Paris, where she met the artists Kupka and Henry Valensi. The latter asked her to take part in the first Salon of the “Artistes Musicalistes”, and she then began to move away from figuration.
