Description for the presentation 2013-2014 in the National Museum of Modern Art

“Breast-eyes, navel-nose and genital-mouth” - these were the words chosen by Dubuffet to describe his “Corps de dames” series, consisting of grimacing figures with highly visible female attributes. The artist liked working a generous material, distorting and lacerating it. As intimated by the title, Le Métafizyx, with its outsize body and skull-head, invites the viewer to contemplate the perishable nature of flesh.
