Description for the presentation 2013-2014 in the National Museum of Modern Art

Atlan, a French artist of Judaeo-Kabyle origin, moved to Paris in 1930 to study philosophy. He began to paint after the Second World War, and became involved in the CoBrA movement, which drew inspiration from primitive sources, popular traditions and Eastern cultures. In Les Miroirs de l’Asie, a rhythmic flight of organic forms, Atlan sought to transcend the opposition between figuration and abstraction, and create a new language.
