Description for the presentation in the National Museum of Modern Art

Immerged in the snowy landscape, the cubic house –the artist’s studio?– seems like a shelter in the midts of winter.

After spending the summer of 1906 painting in Antwerp with Braque, Friesz went to the Côte de Grâce on his own. A first series of paintings represents a clearing in the forest, painted in the warm colours of autumn which here give away to the cold colors of winter.
