Imagined by President Georges Pompidou in 1969 and opened in 1977, Centre Pompidou has acted since its creation as a "cultural engine", breaking down barriers between disciplines and generations. Situated in the heart of Paris, this unique institution demystifies our relationship with art and art in the making. By uniting the Musée national d’art moderne, a library open to all (the Bibliothèque public information, Bpi), and a center of research and musical creation (Ircam), Centre Pompidou fosters dialogue between artists, directors, choreographers, filmmakers, writers, and thinkers. All are housed within a landmark building designed by three young architects: Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers, and Gianfranco Franchini.
In 2030, a transformed Centre Pompidou will reopen its doors. True to its founders’ visionary spirit, this renovation preserves its essence: a bold architectural statement open to the city, serving as a space for multidisciplinary creation, all while projecting it into the future.

Without any expansion or overreach, the Centre Pompidou 2030 project takes an eco-friendly/sustainable approach that makes the most of the existing structure. It aims to reconfigure several spaces to accommodate new forms of cultural programming, reaffirm its multidisciplinary spirit, enhance the visit experience, and reimagine the display of Europe’s largest collection of modern and contemporary art. The renovation also asserts our commitment to better welcoming the public, notably youth, while affirming the importance of supporting active creation.
Enhanced space, heightened transparency, a more straightforward layout: pathways connecting the Center Pompidou's exhibits will offer greater fluidity and a more intuitive visitor journey. Our exhibition and event programme will resonate even more deeply with societal shifts and modern life.

Serving as both a state-of-the-art conservation hub and a vibrant cultural destination, the Centre Pompidou Francilien – Fabrique de l’art à Massy will open in spring 2027 to hold the Museum’s reserves and host exhibition spaces and restoration workshops. Equipped with tools that meet the highest international standards, the building provides an excellent setting for collection care, management, and scientific study. The Centre Pompidou Francilien is more than a conservation center; it will be a space where the public interacts with works, works in progress, and the artists. It offers a rich and accessible artistic and cultural program, combining exhibitions, workshops, artist residencies, and participatory projects. Just thirty minutes from Paris via the future Metro Line 18, the Centre Pompidou Francilien – fabrique de l’art is a space for exchange, learning, and discovery, where art becomes part of daily life.
Additionally, to promote still-underrepresented female and non-binary artists, the AWARE (Archives of Women Artists, Research & Exhibitions) association joined the Centre Pompidou through a private initiative in January 2026. Integrated directly within the Musée national d’art moderne, it continues and expands its core missions of research and advocacy. It reinforces the Museum’s dedication to women creators across its permanent collection and broader modern art history.
Guide audiences in discovering modern and contemporary art. Join the Centre Pompidou in its effort to reach all audiences, including underserved populations, people with disabilities, and those facing social or economic hardship, by supporting tailored learning and community programmes grounded in universal accessibility and inclusion.
As part of the Constellation program, outreach activities are taking place throughout France and internationally in connection with the Centre Pompidou’s collection and cultural partners.
Support young audiences through youth-targeted programs and workshops. Become a partner or sponsor of Studio 13/16. Housed at the Gaîté Lyrique for the duration of the renovation, it continues to offer teenagers a space to experiment with and discover contemporary art.

During its renovation, the spirit of the Centre Pompidou is traveling far and wide through the Constellation program and is continuing its mission in Paris and throughout France with an ambitious lineup of events, notably at the Grand Palais.
