Children and families

For children: From the "Galerie des enfants" (Kids Gallery) to the museum, and from the "Atelier des enfants" (Kids Studio) to the major temporary exhibitions, the Centre Pompidou has devised activities for all ages (from 2 and up) and tastes!

For parents: While numerous activities are available for families at the Centre Pompidou, adults are there to take part in the current activity as go-betweens and players. The participatory dimension of projects encourages the delight of making things and having fun together, sharing a moment of creativity as a family.

For teenagers: The Centre Pompidou has created Studio 13/16, an open space with free programmes dedicated to 13-16 year-olds, and "La Fabrique", a collaborative fab-lab.

Workshop-exhibitions

The Galerie des enfants is an exhibition area open to all artistic disciplines where children and their families can develop their outlook on creation through observation and experimentation.

Each year, the Galerie des Enfants presents two new workshop-exhibitions devised by contemporary artists. These are interactive and fun, enabling children to explore the world of the visual artist, architect, dancer, designer, musician or writer concerned, and share his or her approach and creative practices.

Workshops and circuits

The "Atelier des Enfants" (Kids Studio) develops small children’s awareness of art and creation. The idea is to broaden their imagination so that they see creation as a resource that develops an open mind, stimulates their curiosity and enhances their understanding of the world. Whatever area is explored, each proposal is based on daily experience and a sensorial approach that enriches children’s perception and makes them keen to find out more about today’s creation.

Artistic technique workshops, circuits through the museum with musicians or actors, active tours of the museum. These activities always include time spent in front of actual works in the museum or a temporary exhibition.

The programme is divided into four categories:

  • "Museum weekends": activities based on the permanent collections of the Centre Pompidou, around great figures in modern art, movements, techniques and so on…
  • "Exhibition weekends": workshops reflecting major exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou
  • "Wednesdays in Freedom": an activity for children aged 2-10 with non-stop reception all afternoon. You can arrive and leave whenever you want, so access is totally flexible to fit in with Wednesdays

Fab-lab La Fabrique

Although La Fabrique at the Centre Pompidou’s Children’s Workshop may resemble a fab lab in the machines and the materials that are found there (laser cutters, 3D printers, etc.), it operates in a wholly original way.

A fab lab, or fabrication laboratory, enables anyone, whether designer, artist, entrepreneur or amateur, to take an idea from a digital model to a fabricated object, making the whole chain of production accessible to everyone.

Every three months, a new artist will be invited to La Fabrique, bringing with them a fresh project. Week by week, they will engage the children (aged 9 to 12) in the production of a collective work in accordance with a defined scenario or story board. It will be presented to participants in the form of a grid that will allow new arrivals to situate themselves within the development of the project as a whole as they make a one-off or indeed regular contribution to it.

Discover La Fabrique tumblr, a daily log of doings at La Fabrique, will record and share the progress made
