Inaugurated in 2019, the West Bund Museum in Shanghai represents a major and exemplary project of cultural cooperation and exchange between China and France, made possible by the expertise and the rich resources of the Centre Pompidou. This partnership is reflected in a jointly curated program that fosters dialogue between the two artistic scenes and embraces a deliberately transitive approach—as illustrated by the recent exhibition "目 China, A New Generation of Artists", presented at the Centre Pompidou.

The West Bund Museum is located along the riverfront in Shanghai’s Xuhui district, an area officially recognized as a "model residential environment" in China. It is one of the flagship institutions of the West Bund’s Museum Mile.
Designed by Sir David Chipperfield and his team, the museum positions itself as a vital cultural platform, both within its neighborhood and the broader city. Its ambition is to serve as an open, interdisciplinary cultural hub, inviting visitors to actively engage with its spaces. Visitors are encouraged to explore a vibrant and diverse artistic scene and to participate—alongside the West Bund Museum—in shaping the cultural landscape of the city.
