The event is over
Far-away lights outline the city. Shiny boats bring sleeping people and night liquefies. The Sower of Stars wakes them and they pass through the city, making small talk, and saying goodbye to everything.
“The first thing I tried to capture was this peaceful feeling, hidden within the vertigo of a megalopolis like Tokyo. And two plastic references emerged very quickly to work the image: Zen landscape painting - from where I could underline the idea of emptiness and silence- and the cyberpunk aesthetics of films like Blade Runner - to build futuristic neon architectures by superimposing planes.” Lois Patiño

A man deep in sleep dreams of a city at the break of dawn.
“Yann Gonzalez and Flavien Giorda gave me four reels of 16-mm tape to make film. […]four reels of 16-mm tape and one whimsical rule: film for one or two minutes a day throughout March, at a moment between night and day. Every day, I met up with Maxime Berger, the chief cameraman, and set out to film these moments when the city changes its look: just before nightfall, the light would have one last blaze, the streets were cloaked in an disquieted layer of dusk, and the curfew emptied the city of its customary hustle and bustle in one brutal sweep.” Jean-Sébastien Chauvin

Pendant le confinement en 2020, Lucrecia Martel retourne chez elle à Salta, la région la plus conservatrice d’Argentine. Elle y suit Julieta Laso qui, telle une muse, lui fait rencontrer un groupe de femmes artistes et provocatrices qui échangent regards et opinions autour du feu.
Avec ce moyen métrage tourné au début de la pandémie, Lucrecia Martel (La ciénaga, 2001, La Sainte Fille, 2003, La Femme sans tête, 2008, Zama, 2017) oppose au confinement la liberté et les chants de femmes entre elles.
« North Terminal est une humble célébration de l’amitié, de la proximité que génère la musique et de l’amour. Ce n’est pas un hommage, c’est une célébration. Nous avons voulu partager avec des personnes que nous ne connaissons pas le bonheur d’une rencontre. Une idée que j’ai depuis longtemps, que lorsque les gens se réunissent et partagent quelque chose, le divin apparaît. Ce n’est pas forcément une bonne chose.
