The supreme commander of the French armies upped sticks towards the end of April (1372), left Auvergne, crossed La Marche, invaded Poitou, captured Chauvigny, Montmorillon, and marched to Moncontour, where the English had strengthened the fortifications by adding incredibly wide moats.
