His black-and-white photographs convey considerable formal power, showing men and women at work, the ravages of the drought in the Sahel and vast migratory movements. They heighten our awareness of the state of the world. Genesis, his latest project, shows “a potential path to humanity's rediscovery of itself as an integral part of nature.”
