The straight-laced and debonair anti-hero of this film is obsessed by virile fashion icon Vincent Gallo, to the point of leaving Paris on a bus to seek out his idol after a concert in England. Julien Hallard accentuates the burlesque sides of his character to lend a syncopated rhythm to this amusing quest, creating a minimalist, unusual and off-beat atmosphere. He seems to enjoy bringing to life the irresistible character of the geek, who is like a wayward cousin emblematic of the great hopes and small disillusionments we all share.
In 2003, Julien Hallard co-directed a trilogy of short films set in New York, strongly inspired by American cinema: Brooklyn 02, Valentine and Résurrection, presented at the Locarno Festival and at the Mostra in Venise the same year. Meeting Vincent Gallo, his first mid-length film, allowed Hallard to direct his fetish actor, Matthew Bond, who is also his partner in the DJ duo The Peals. The two musicians collaborate on the music and cinema pages of the magazine Dedicate. Julien Hallard currently lives and works in Paris.
