12 Oct 2021

Don't miss the special representation of Fosse, the opera by Christian Boltanski, Jean Kalman and Franck Krawczyk. The Centre Pompidou and the Opéra Comique come together to pay homage to one of the leading artists of our time, Christian Boltanski, who died last summer. The Centre Pompidou car park again hosts this singular creation, which was presented to the public for the first time in January 2020. This unique representation forms part of the different celebrations around the work of the artist, also being presented in the Palace of Versailles and the Louvre Museum.
Christian Boltanski, Jean Kalman, Franck Krawczyk, Fosse, 2020
An opus for soprano, solo cello, choir, 12 cellos, 6 pianos, percussion and electric guitars.
Since 2001 the three artists from different horizons have worked on a new form of show that satisfies three conditions: the given space constitutes the base of the libretto; the show has no beginning or end (the public can enter and leave at any time); spectators are not positioned before the performance but stroll around in the very heart of the performance space.
Like Dante or Orpheus, visitors wander through an indeterminate space, immersed in what happens below, under the surface, under the stage, shifting the focus to what normally tends to be hidden. Fosse, or opera as a mise en abime.
