Description for the presentation 2011 in the National Museum of Modern Art

After moving to France in 1956 the American-born muralist Fabio Rieti began a close collaboration with architect Émile Aillaud, designing large-scale polychrome schemes for such major developments as the social housing schemes at Grigny (La Grande Borne 1967-1971), Chanteloup-les-Vignes (1971-1973) and Nanterre (Quartier Picasso, 1974-1978). Entirely covered in coloured glass paste, the facades of the Quartier Picasso depict a sky with clouds, crossed by greenery. Beyond this apparent figurative literalism, the colour scheme contributes to establishing an identity for the new neighbourhood....
