His discovery of handmade hanji paper in Korea in 1987 prompted Brusse to engage in pictorial practice, which then became an important part of his production.
The 1980s-1990s were marked by long stays in Japan and Korea. Mark Brusse' s artistic vocabulary was enriched through contact with Asian legends, landscapes and techniques. Large sheets of mulberry paper became his favourite support for his paintings, peopled with human figures whose bodies were often deformed and fragmented, but also animals and imaginary beings. This triptych full of symbols is a testament to Brusse's interest in non-Western myths and cultures.
