Objet-sculpture Personnage "Bouloum"
1970
In 1970 painter and designer Olivier Mourgue joined the team of French designers (Jardonnet, Lenclos, Paulin, Perthuison, Tallon) assembled by Tecnor to work on the interior of the French Pavilion at Expo 1970 in Osaka. Following on from his anthropomorphic chair of 1968, a polyester shell with foam and jersey, for this event he developed the “Bouloum” series: anthropomorphic chairs for the auditorium, blue-painted moulded ply tables for the cafeteria, wood and fabric light shades, and these silhouette-signs. Produced in blue, white and red, they stood at the entrance to the pavilion to symbolise the theme of the exhibition – 50 million French people in all their activities – and punctuated the journey through it.
