Improvisation XIV
1910
Two knights confront each other in a stylised forest announcing the shift to abstraction.
ln the paintings here entitled "Improvisations", Wassily Kandinsky summons up images tram his imagination, as in this scene which he prepared in a drawing that belongs ta the Museum, in which we can make out two knights and a tree. The references ta nature are little more than allusions here, pretexts for the harmony of shapes and colours. The masses edged in black show the artist's interest for Bavarian painting on glass.
