Synchronicités (Failogram)
2023
This tribute to Nicéphore Niépce, one of the inventors of photography, captures the instant before the birth of the image in order to celebrate its magic.
The glass object suspended above the pewter disk reproduces the shape of the phylactery-like swirl in Nicéphore Niépce's signature. It contains a few drops
of bitumen of Judea, a photosensitive product that Niépce used to produce the first fixed image of a landscape in 1824. From 1826 onwards, he used tin to make graven images and reproduce photographs. ln this work that evokes the production of images, however, there is no image.
