Carton perforé
2009
Musician and artist Rainier Lericolais works on the idea of the imprint, on the production and subsequent alternative representation of images. Music is a constant inspiration in his sculptural and graphic work. Carton Perforé (Perforated Card) takes up the layout of Un coup de Dé jamais n’abolira le hasard – one of Mallarmé’s first typographic poems – and transcribes it as perforations in street-organ “book-music” displayed along the wall. In the installation Journal No.2, each element conveys something of the artist’s world, from the seriousness of homage to the laughter of criticism: recordings of every kind, gestures, drawings, painstaking and delicate collages.
