The Nehru Pavilion is a memorial designed to house exhibits on the life and times of Jawarhal Nehru (1889–1964), the Head of State. The architectural form, a tumulus covered with grass, expresses a rejection of monumentality, and echoes the principles of ancient Buddhist stūpas. The lower level of the construction has affinities with the centred layouts of skilful ancient Indian constructions (yantras), structured by the ambulatory movement around a central altar (prakarma).
