Femme à la corbeille
[1934]
"González could be called the sculptor of the voici. [... ]The form of a simply sketched iron blade initiates a line, tracing in the light all the elegance of a body." (Maurice Raynal)
Considered the father of iron sculpture, Julio González produced a series of exclusively linear sculptures, such as Femme à la corbeille in the mid-1930s. During the same period, his daughter Roberta painted semi-abstract portraits in which the lines highlighted the geometric volumes and played with the full and empty spaces.
