Description for the presentation 2013-2014 in the National Museum of Modern Art

In 1918, Magnelli was still living a long way from the war in Rufina, Italy, totally cut-off from the avant-gardes. This period led to works of a new sensuality and liberty, reflecting joy in the end of the war. Far from celebrating modernity like his Futuristic pre-war works, Lyrical Explosion no.8/ is fired by a more primitive energy reflecting the artist’s interest in African art, which he had previously discovered through Apollinaire in Paris.
