Various ways of learning

"I learned to read and write, and for a long time I thought that was enough. Without exactly believing that books symbolised the world, it seemed to me that the universal library came pretty close to it. But literary experience led me towards other ways of learning. Picking up a bit of Chinese, understanding hieroglyphics, immersing myself in the silence of silent films, travelling to Africa and Japan, and practising photography late in life." G. M.
