Widespread throughout the history of cinema, the practice of remakes has fed numerous fantasies. In 2011 James Benning directed a remake of John Cassavetes 1968 film Faces. The radical nature of Benning's work opens up new prospects for the genre. Interpreting the title of the film in its literal sense, the American artist reconstructs Faces from close-ups of actors' faces, shot with scrupulous respect for the structure of the original film.
