"Colors!" brings together over one hundred 20th-century masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou's collection, shown in dialogue with works by modern and contemporary Chinese artists. A modern history of color, and equally, a dialogue between East and West.
Structured around the central theme of color and guided by the thread of "evolutionary trajectories of modernism", the exhibition explores major artistic movements including Fauvism, Cubism, Surrealism, Abstraction, Pop Art, Minimalism, and Conceptual Art.
It unfolds across seven monochromatic spaces, enriched by sound creations by composer Roque Rivas in collaboration with Ircam (the Centre Pompidou’s Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music), as well as olfactory installations conceived by Alexis Dadier in partnership with the Fragonard perfume house. These distinctive elements together create a multisensory immersive environment, inviting visitors to reconsider how color is perceived in modern and contemporary art.
This color wheel is completed by modern works from the Minsheng Art Museum and sixteen pieces by leading contemporary Chinese artists.
