G.R.O.O.V.E. is an ambulatory performance nourished by the artistic approach carried out over the past 20 years by Bintou Dembélé. Choreographic excerpts from the opera-ballet Les Indes galantes, the projection of short films about marginal protest cultures and concert- and baroque-style performances inhabit the space.
The lighting design by Benjamin Nesme brings the luminous atmosphere of the street into the Centre Pompidou. Guided by the voice of Célia Kameni, the audience is invited to soak up the sound of Charles Amblard’s guitar and lap steel and follow the dancers with Bintou Dembélé. Together, they redefine the space, inviting you to join them and celebrate “us”.
“Groove starts with a context, a sound environment, an atmosphere. A rhythm that emerges somehow, an instant to seize, to suspend. Some experience it on the inside, others visualise it or just love it. Me, I inhabit it. It can’t be explained. Pure egoism, a moment that belongs to us and sets the tempo but which, after a while, invites us to share. We are together, we celebrate each other with a look, a gesture, or a syncope.
