Christine Herzer draws endlessly, without pause and on multiple surfaces—paper, windows, magazines, or theatre programs from the performances she attends. In her work, writing and drawing constantly intertwine, merge and separate, only to meet again in new ways.
With an acute sensitivity to everything around her—everything she sees and encounters, people as well as world events—Christine Herzer composes lists and clouds of words that pass through her; she writes and draws universes of thoughts, shocks, reactions, and moments of passion. She will be continuously present at the Drawing Lab for an entire weekend, from Saturday morning to Sunday evening, welcoming visitors with drawings and engaging with them through readings, writings, questions, intense thoughts, and postcards.
Christine Herzer is an artist and poet. She lives and works in Paris. Her works (written drawings, poems, objects, performance) highlight language and speech (words, voices, silences, handwriting) and our ability to see and feel them. She holds degrees in literature and creative writing (M.F.A. in Poetry, Bennington College, United States / Master’s in Literature and Creative Writing). She lived for 12 years in India, dividing her time between writing, meditation, and teaching. Her third poetry collection, titled ORANGE, was published by Ugly Duckling Presse (Brooklyn, United States).
