NFT-Archeology
2021
Fred Forest is a pioneering artist in video, telematic and net art who places himself as a forerunner of NFT with his work NFT-Archeology.
In 2021, Fred Forest put NFT-Archeology up for sale at a public price that was €1 higher than that of the digital collage Everydays - The First 5 000 days by Beeple, which soldat auction for $69.3 million. Forest's NFT consists of a rereading of a work from 1996, Parcelle-Réseau, the first website to be sold at auction with a password that only the owner knew. This precursory idea of private access to a digital work, more than twenty years before the NFT craze, explains the symbolic choice of its sale price.
