The motif of the country woman with a knotted headscarf can be found in many of Roberta González's works. Some sketches were studies made on the spot during her time as a refugee in Lot during the Second World War. The theme echoes that of the Montserrat, the figure of a Catalan country woman whom Julio González used as the emblem of Spain wounded by the Civil War several years earlier.
