Dolmen 8
2014
Dolmen belongs among Andrea Branzi’s reflections on the “Primitive Metropolis” (2014), an exploration of mankind’s fundamental, archetypal condition of “becoming-animal. ” These “models” suggest both a megalithic site and an enigmatic library of “signs”. The watching figure twisted atop its perch recalls the gorilla/man of Francis Bacon’s painting, in midmetamorphosis from human to animal. In another model, the erratic disposition of stones and rugs calls to mind the mantra motifs of Maisons à plan central (1987) whose architecture is conceived as a ritual around objects.
