These grimacing faces with their spontaneous and precise lines are identifiable only by the emergence of two eyes, a nose, a mouth or an eye.
Like Karel Appel, the artist's work was influenced by Paul Klee. Consisting of a line with brown ink in a type of representation that borders on abstraction, these falsely naïve drawings are reminiscent of children's drawings and primitive art. Egill Jacobsen, a founding member of Cobra in 1948, had an interest in the world of psychoanalysis and, like the other artists in the group, sought to explore the subconscious through drawing.
