Sergej Jensen was born in Denmark in 1973 and today lives and works in Berlin. He has a singular approach to painting: instead of painting the canvas, he stains, bleaches, sows or embroiders it by sticking recycled pieces of fabric. Jensen’s minimalist art draws on American abstract painting of the 1950s, on the burnt and perforated canvasses of Alberto Burri and on the matierist works of Blinky Palermo. With the two pieces of canvas arranged like eyes and long sown horizontal line that looks likes an incision, it is tempting to liken this recent abstract composition Without a title to a mask, a theme adopted by many 20th century painters.
