"I wondered what would happen if I could put myself inside the vibration."
Venezuelan artist Jesus Rafael Soto collaborated with Carlos Villanueva in the synthesis of the arts programme for Caracas University halls of residence, then in the Venezuela Pavilion at the Universal Exposition in Montreal. As a leading figure in the kinetic movement, the artist explored optical and vibratory effects. ln 1967, for his exhibition in the Denise René gallery in Paris,Soto showed for the first time a "work in space", which formed what he called a suspended volume "where the eye panics and loses its bearings".
