Pêche de nuit
1957
One of the earliest of Henri Chopin’s compositions, Pêche de nuit [Night fishing], was made in 1957, when Chopin was living on the Île de Ré and practicing a primitive form of trap-fishing using stone walls and metal grilles. Five years later, this audio-poem led to a film “created backwards,” that is, “one in which the sound controls the image, and not the other way around,” for which Swiss filmmaker Tjerk Wicky animated works in black and white by Belgian painter Luc Peire.
