The Victory Series I
2003
“I’d like to paint the dead tissue of our time”, declared Mark Alexander, whose works seem to stand outside chronology, being both inspired by historic figures and full of autobiographical references. In The Victory Series (2005), this creator of a mysterious and tragic universe recalls his childhood, setting himself in the middle of the composition, the centre of his world. The rays that surround him recall the iconography of Louis XIV, the Sun King.
