After working for six years as a machine technician, Richard Stankiewicz learnt to paint in Hans Hoffmann's studio before devoting his time to sculpture. Working with pieces of metal, he applied certain aspects of Abstract Expressionism such as spontaneity. Despite his use of industrial materials (wide strips of rusted metal wrapped in cable), this work resembles a chrysalis as indicated by the title.
