Entrance to Exit (Fluxfilm n°10)
1966
With Entrance to Exit, Brecht transposed his 1961 performance Word Event onto film.
The performance took place in a darkened room where the participants couId only make out the "entrance" and "exit" signs. The artist did not give any information, which led to multiple interpretations. Brecht reproduces this principle in his film: the "entrance" sign appears and then the screen is blank for a few minutes. The sound wave is modulated as the screen gradually changes to black until the "exit" sign appears. Brecht extends his questioning of the variety of perceptions generated by the same experience.
