In free fall

In In Free Fall Hito Steyerl focuses on the present in a work that links pop culture and politics, independent film and Hollywood cinema, documentary and interview with artistic exploration. The film looks at the current crisis of a globalised capitalism through the example of an aeroplane scrapyard in California’s Mojave Desert. Steyerl portrays a capitalism that in its cyclical operations incorporates and adapts its component elements – people, machinery, places – like the components of these planes, whose aluminium is recycled to produce DVDs.
