This Haitian artist was inspired by a traditional imaginary world to make sculptures, drawings and, here, a set of sixty-seven characters cut out of car tyres.
Guyodo, born Frantz Jacques, opens his workshop in Grand-Rue, the main road in the capital of the country, to residents and underprivileged children, transforming the district into a living museum. There he develops a diverse and prolific body of work made up of found materials of all kinds, collected in the city and the surrounding area. Through these figures made of industrial rubber, incarnations of protective spirits, Guyodo conjures up the elements of his country's culture and the excesses of globalised society.
