Dedicated to the study and celebration of music and its heritage, the Cité de la musique – Philharmonie de Paris—featuring four concert halls and a museum collection that spans the history of Western music from the 16th century to the present day—is a key partner within the Centre Pompidou’s Constellation. Together, they co-organize contemporary music concerts and multidisciplinary exhibitions that bring music into dialogue with the visual arts.

The Music of Color
15 October 2025 – 1st February 2026
The Centre Pompidou and the Musée de la Musique – Philharmonie de Paris join forces to co-produce a major exhibition on the musical imagination in the work of Vassily Kandinsky (1866-1944).
Bringing together nearly 200 works and objects from Kandinsky’s studio (scores, records, books, tools…), the exhibition reveals how music was central to his daily life, his vocation as a painter, and his transition toward abstraction. An immersive audio experience offers insights into the subtle interplay between music, form, and color that guided his reinvention of painting. The exhibition also includes audiovisual and interactive installations that recreate Kandinsky’s synesthetic works and his ambition to synthesize the visual, sonic, and performative arts.

The Cité de la musique – Philharmonie de Paris is a unique musical complex that brings together:
- an exceptional concert program across four venues;
- a world-renowned symphony orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, and a choir;
- a heritage project that combines the permanent collection of the Musée de la musique with temporary exhibitions;
- a wide-reaching educational mission, embracing all musical genres and audiences, including a nationwide youth orchestra initiative (Démos) and the Philharmonie des enfants, a space dedicated to introducing children aged 4 to 10 to the world of music.
The Cité de la musique – Philharmonie de Paris attracts leading symphonic ensembles from around the globe, as well as major names in classical music, jazz, world music, and contemporary genres. The Orchestre de Paris and the resident ensembles—including the Ensemble intercontemporain, Les Arts Florissants, the Orchestre de chambre de Paris, and the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France—form the core of its artistic vision.
Its activities take place within a landmark architectural complex: the Cité de la musique, designed by Christian de Portzamparc (1995), and the Philharmonie, designed by Jean Nouvel (2015).
