Uganda, April 2000. Abbas Kiarostami and his assistant, Seifollah Samadian, arrive in Kampala at the request of a humanitarian association. For ten days, their camera reveals and records the faces of thousands of children. All orphans, they have lost their parents to AIDS.

Dental hygiene has been neglected for generations in Mohammad Reza's family. As a result, the father and grandfather both wear dentures. The young Mohammad is also seized with a violent toothache. While he is being treated in hospital, a specialist gives him advice on dental hygiene.
